Get Investment Ready

One of the secrets of successful funding is to be prepared. There are two key elements to your Investden pitch that you’ll need to ensure are in place to be successful – business plan and financial forecast.

No serious investor will invest a significant sum of money without first having a good understanding of your business.  You may only get one chance so first impressions do count.

Financial forecasting

Our investors regularly tell us that good financials that add up are a must. The purpose of your financial forecasts is to set out a clear picture of your financial position in a way that allows an investor to understand your business model and make their own judgement about your potential.  Without this your pitch could be doomed before it gets started.

To make sure that investors get everything they need we require three years’ profit and loss, cash flow and balance sheet forecasts before you can list on Investden.

Our Investden Financial Forecasting service offers you a cost effective and fast way to get your get your finances up to scratch. Find out more about our financial forecasting service.

Business plan

The quality of your business case will be crucial to the success of your pitch. Good business ideas need to be underpinned by a well-presented, well-thought-out plan.  This is especially important for start-ups and early stage businesses without a proven trading track record.

A good business plan may not be the decisive factor in getting investment but a bad plan can be the reason for not getting it. Find out more about getting your business plan right.

Pitch video

Your pitch video (or animation) is one of the most powerful tools you have to communicate your investment opportunity and add some personality.  So it's really worth thinking about it.

Keep it short – three minutes is plenty. After this, people are likely to switch off so you have a small window of opportunity to stand out. You can do this by telling your story in a clear, memorable, passionate and professional way. Whatever you do, use everyday language as people need to understand you quickly and clearly. And remember, the video is a direct reflection on you and how you run the business so give it a professional, high quality feel.

It’s critical that your core idea is communicated effectively. Focus on the problem it solves and the value it adds rather than the technical aspects. For more tips, take a look at this guide.

Tax relief

Applying for EIS or SEIS tax relief is really important. Tax relief is a great incentive for investors and so should not be left out of the equation. You will need to have applied for it before your pitch goes live to enable your pitch to have the EIS or SEIS logo associated with it.  Click here to find out more about EIS and SEIS tax relief
